while most instruments are made to sound similar to other older famous instruments,
we used technology for new, cleaner sounds, the most expressive, least noisy, most flexible…
Rolf and Matthias met through their fascination for single string processing in 1982. They agreed that the magnetic pickups, passive wiring and treble compensating tube amps was great for the revolution of the 60ies and its memories, but a versatile instrument should sound good when plugged into a mixer. and not need batteries.
Magnetic pickups always filter by their position and coil non-linearity. They cannot be hum free and cannot separate bent strings in a good sounding position. So we started building piezo pickups and found they sound perfectly flat when mounted directly under the string and well amplified.
as a result, our guitars can take the function of
• a clean full tone similar to an acoustic guitar, but more direct, no boomy resonances
• a simultaneous single deep full bass line, with the Polybass
• a singing tone like a cello or woodwind with Polydistortion
• an aggressive rock rock distortion, even with nylon strings
you can play very softly, because there is no noise and no feedback
we think Bach would have loved this sound, please listen to this on real monitor speakers:
